A significant number of offline businesses across parts of Asia and Africa continue to operate within environments characterized by structural inefficiencies, limited transparency, and restricted access to financial and digital infrastructure. These limitations result in increased operational costs, reduced trust, and constrained opportunities for sustainable growth.
First, traditional centralized payment and settlement systems often impose high transaction fees, delayed settlement cycles, and limited accessibility, placing a disproportionate burden on small and medium-sized offline businesses.
Second, the lack of visibility and transparency in transactional and operational data makes it difficult to objectively assess business performance. This, in turn, hinders access to external partnerships, financial services, and long-term expansion opportunities.
Third, while blockchain technology has been widely recognized as a potential solution to these challenges, many existing blockchain projects remain token-centric or confined to online-native use cases. As a result, they fail to address the practical realities and operational constraints of offline business environments.
In addition, complex user experiences, high technical entry barriers, and insufficient consideration of local regulatory and operational contexts have limited the meaningful adoption of blockchain-based systems by offline business operators and local communities.
Consequently, there is a clear gap in the market for a practical, scalable, and sustainable model that effectively connects real-world offline business operations with blockchain technology.
The KRONA project identifies this gap and recognizes the necessity of a business-first, reality-driven approach to addressing the structural challenges faced by offline economies.
